Pinterest is the app for inspiration. It helps people to find useful, relevant ideas—and then bring them to life. People don’t always have the words to describe what they’re looking for. But, they’ll know it when they see it. As they browse Pinterest content (called ‘Pins’), they fine-tune their tastes and find the perfect idea. Pins are the #1 way to attract your target audience and drive direct traffic to your website for FREE.
Pinterest is made up of Pins and Boards. Some people get confused between the two as the terms are used interchangeably a lot.
Basically, your Pinterest profile is made up of Boards. The Boards should be based on a theme, as it doesn’t make sense to create random Boards. For instance, you can have boards for quotes, design ideas, plans, etc. In other words, Boards should have a purpose.
Unlike Instagram posts, Pins are organised. And that happens because of Boards. Boards are collections where you organise or save your Pins … in fact you cannot save Pins without a Board. The Boards that you create are public by default. Meaning anyone who visits your profile can see the Boards and the Pins in it. Similarly, these Pins and Boards will appear in the search results.
The content on Pinterest is known as Pins. The things that you upload on Pinterest or the things that you see on Pinterest, all are called Pins.
For instance, in the world of Facebook, a Pin would be a Facebook post. You upload a post (Pin) and others can share and comment on it. Similarly, you will see others posts (Pins) on your wall or Pinterest feed.
Set Up ‘Rich Pins’
Rich pins are Pinterest pins that have more information than a regular pin, and they are validated by Pinterest directly.
Before you can set up a rich pin you must have a business account and you must claim your website with Pinterest. Rich pins have much more information for the visitor to learn about what you are offering than the average pin.
The key to Rich Pins is that they show metadata on the pin itself. This ensures that important information about the Pin is always displayed.
You can create Rich Pins for House plans with a link directly to product for consumer to view. On your David Reid Homes WordPress website you’ll want to install the plug-in YOAST to your website or chat to iSonic and Matt to set it up.
You can find it in your WordPress menu under ‘SEO’. To enable Social Settings, which you will need to set up Rich Pins on your website, select ‘SEO > Dashboard’. Click on the ‘Features’ tab. Scroll down the page and under ‘Advanced Settings Pages’ select Enable. Once Yoast SEO has been installed on your WordPress website, you will need to integrate and confirm your site with Pinterest.
1. Create boards and upload pins
2. Make sure to optimise each board and pin with Pinterest standard practices:
3. Pin often. Use your Topic Planner and your scheduler if you are using Buffer or Canva. If you are using the Meta planner for Instagram and Facebook there is an app called Tailwind which is designed to schedule and automate your pin schedule. It is great for growing your Pinterest followers and community as well.
Don’t Hard Sell – Inspire
We all know that it’s important to show off the quality of your work; maybe a build you are aiming to impress potential customers, do shout about suppliers and products that have been involved; Pinterest and its visual framework gives you a great opportunity to do this.
However, what makes a construction company stand out from the crowd is their ability to not solely talk about themselves.
Although architects, contractors and homeowners benefit from visual representations of projects, products, infographics and even surveys, delivering added value by showing a little insight into your company and sharing inspirational images [aside from your own projects] is key.
Create an inspirational mood board of projects you may not have been directly involved with but are great examples of impressive work; this will not only create a Pinterest account that displays variety, but it will also show your audience that you appreciate others’ hard work as well as your own.
In addition, showcase your employees and life around the office; show them working together, during the build process, and show some of the fun activities your business participates in such as company outings, parties and award ceremonies. Letting people in behind-the-scenes will enable you to instantly humanise your brand and make it stand out from the crowd.
Pin well and rank high
Individual Pinterest accounts, as well as each pin board you create, is being indexed by Google. Therefore, similarly to your Google Business Profile, make sure you give them descriptive titles containing your keywords. So, a Pinboard called ‘timber decking for residential properties’ packed full of product images and descriptions, would be better than a board simply called ‘decking’ which is generic and non-specific.
These SEO-friendly terms should not only describe the content behind the pin but should be terms that other people typically use when searching for products or topics. This will increase the chance of people finding your pins using the search tool, and the more people that post your items on their boards or link to it, the more followed links you’ll be getting. Ultimately this will contribute towards improving your overall search rankings.
CTA’s and Incentives
According to Hubspot, pins with descriptions around 200 characters have been shown to be the most repinnable, whilst pins with CTA’s have an 80% increase in engagement over pins without CTA’s.
Therefore create descriptions that will grab attention immediately by keeping them short and concise. Make it clear to the user why you have published a particular pin and where you want them to go after viewing it. After all, why should they click on the link that you’ve attached?
When sharing information on building projects or product installations, make it worthwhile an architect clicking on the link to your website; this will then guide them towards making a positive impression about your services.
