Repurposing and Creating Content for TikTok

While we have covered this topic, its always a good reminder for each platform. Repurposing means you create one piece of content … and tailor it for each social platform.

It’s working smarter, not harder…and meeting prospective customers on the platform they prefer. Essentially by resizing or reusing the content you’ve already created for other channels or purposes. This can be as straightforward as sharing your latest TikTok on Instagram, YouTube Shorts, and Facebook.

Create content that people will want to watch

There’s no secret recipe for making a successful TikTok video, but there are some good rules of thumb to follow.

In an earlier lesson I covered keeping the social media profile for your franchise consistent with the David Reid Homes brand yet the one thing that is guaranteed is that everything on Social Media changes. However, there are standard types of content that can carry across the different Social Media channels. They are:

  • Short Form Video – 30second to 90 second video for TikTok
  • Carousel Photo Posts. – up to 10 images then TikTok creates a video
  • Long Form Video Posts – up to 10 minutes TikTok

Make sure your video looks good

It may seem obvious, but the better your sound and video quality, the more enjoyable your content will be to watch. That doesn’t mean you need to invest in pricey equipment, as mentioned above, but be conscious about filming in well-lit spaces where the audio is going to be clean… like at a holiday light display, for instance.

If clean audio is impossible, add a trending track to your video instead of the original sound. Here’s how to find business-friendly sounds to use on your TikTok.

How-to videos and tutorials are always popular

Whether it’s a fitness video or a cooking demo, audiences tend to like a little bit of education in their TikTok feed. Create videos that show off your expertise or reveal some behind-the-scenes intel to keep them watching.

Use hashtags

TikTok hashtags will help your content get discovered via search and help the TikTok algorithm identify what kind of topics you’re covering.

Edit Social Videos in Your Browser or Canva Instead of Inside the Actual App

Although Reels, YouTube Shorts, and TikTok all have their own video editing tools, if you create the content inside of the app, you can’t save the file directly to your phone without the social platform watermark. Also sometimes the mobile app editing suites are difficult to use.

How to Download Your Social Media Posts Without the Watermarks

If you want to reuse older content that you’ve already made using the TikTok native editor, don’t worry. Instead of saving directly from the app, copy the share URL for the video instead. Head over to Kapwing.com. You’ll see the option to upload a video from a URL. Paste your video link there and Kapwing will grab your video from the link, without watermark.

Understanding How the TikTok Algorithm Works

If you’re serious about using TikTok for your business, a crucial step is to understand how the platform’s algorithm works. You need to know the factors that influence the TikTok algorithm so you can use them to your advantage and improve visibility on the platform.

This would involve including a relevant caption along with relevant and popular hashtags to drive up visibility in front of the right audience. Besides the information on your video like captions and hashtags, user interactions play a critical role in influencing the algorithm.

So it’s important that you create content that people would want to view and engage with. The goal is to drive up engagements in your target niche so that more people can notice your content in their “For You” pages.

Moreover, using popular TikTok sounds is another excellent way to improve your visibility in the TikTok algorithm. Look for opportunities to leverage them in your videos so people searching for the sound can find your content more easily.

The Main Types Of TikTok Content:

Here are some suggestions for the type of content that does really well:

  • Educational content – Creating value-driven educational content is a great way to get started on reels—especially since people are encouraged to share and save reels. Here are some examples of educational content: Five things to do before you start to build, layout ideas or plans, and top three things to look for in a good builder. Think of tips and advice that your audience wants and needs.
  • Products or services – Reels are primarily seen by non-followers, which means this a great way to promote your business to new people. Share how-to’s, before and afters, vlog-style videos with your products—anything to catch people’s attention.
  • BTS (Behind the Scenes) – People want to see more relatable and raw content on social media. BTS videos are a great way to be more personable and to build rapport with people. Share things like your business story, a day in the life at your company, or funny, relatable clips of you and your team.

TikTok Tips:

  • Keep the videos short, simple, and easy to follow.
  • Include captions and text overlays for accessibility.
  • Use trending sounds in the background (when possible).
  • Include keywords related to your business in your videos, captions, and hashtags.
